Almost 80% of the primary energy demand globally comes from fossil fuels. However, fossil fuel production and use must decline rapidly and drastically to keep global heating below 1.5°C. This target was set in the Paris Agreement 2015 and underpinned by the recent IPCC report, which predicts otherwise drastic consequences such as heatwaves, floods, forest firest, and food and water insecurities.

After finishing my master in 2019, I travelled around Europe in my van for climbing. Although enjoying climbing with my friends and seeing a lot of beautiful places to the fullest, I was increasingly concerned about the impact travelling for climbing has on my own carbon footprint.

Research in Iceland
Climate warming has been suggested to impact northern ecosystems severely, causing considerable carbon losses from the soil with strong implications for the climate crisis. In 2018 I spent several weeks in Iceland to investigate the effects of soil warming on the soil carbon.
